Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking.

Answers to what clients typically ask before getting in touch.

How do I know you won't just tell me I need a whole new system when I probably just need a repair?
Gregg's default is to repair. A full system replacement only makes sense under specific conditions, like a failed heat exchanger on an aging furnace or a compressor failure on a unit with significant refrigerant loss. If your system can be fixed at a reasonable cost, that's what Gregg will recommend. The diagnosis comes first, and you'll understand exactly what the findings are before any recommendation is made.
Can you come out today or tomorrow if my heat or AC goes out?
Gregg works to accommodate urgent situations, especially mid-winter furnace failures and summertime cooling outages. Scheduling depends on current demand, but Gregg has come out first thing in the morning for customers who couldn't get another company to respond at all. Call directly to find out what's available and to describe what your system is doing.
What will this actually cost me, including parts and labor, before you start?
Pricing is discussed and confirmed before any work begins. The diagnostic visit identifies what's wrong, and you'll receive a clear repair quote that covers parts and labor together. Free estimates are provided so you have a number to evaluate before you commit to anything.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Gregg's Heating & Cooling Co is licensed and insured. If your repair or installation requires a permit in your municipality, that can be discussed when you call so there are no compliance surprises after the work is done.
Can you work on my existing equipment, or will you push me toward a specific brand?
Gregg works on most major brands and is not tied to selling a particular manufacturer. The recommendation on any replacement, if one is ever genuinely needed, is based on what fits your home, your existing setup, and your budget, not on what a distributor relationship incentivizes.
How do I know the diagnosis is real and not something made up to justify a big bill?
The diagnostic process is transparent. Gregg walks through what was checked, what the findings were, and what component failed or is failing. If a part needs replacing, you'll understand why. Customers who have gotten very different quotes from larger companies have found that Gregg's assessment often comes down to a straightforward fix that didn't require thousands of dollars of work.
Do you offer annual maintenance so I'm not always dealing with surprise breakdowns?
Annual furnace check-ups and seasonal maintenance visits are available. A pre-season inspection catches worn ignitors, dirty burners, and airflow problems before they become 11 p.m. emergencies. Call to ask about scheduling a maintenance visit before peak heating or cooling season begins.
Can you install or help set up a smart thermostat like a Nest?
Yes. Thermostat replacement and smart thermostat installation are part of what Gregg handles during service visits. If you're worried about whether your system's wiring is compatible or don't want to risk a DIY mistake, that can be addressed during a scheduled call.
How long will I be without heat or AC during a repair or replacement?
Most repairs are completed the same day, or the following day once a part arrives. For full system replacements, the timeline depends on equipment availability, but Gregg will give you a realistic window before anything is scheduled. The goal is to minimize the time your home is without a working system.
Do you handle anything beyond heating and cooling, like humidifiers or air quality equipment?
Gregg can address related questions about your system during a service visit. If you have concerns about dry air, humidity levels, or filtration, bring it up when you call so the visit can be scoped accordingly. It's worth asking rather than assuming it's outside the scope of the work.
